What are the different ways Dunnage Bags are used in different type of shipments?

  • 2-Ply Dunnage Air Bag Uses:

As pictured here, the 2 or 4 ply Dunnage air bag secures the load by locking the last 2 or 4 pallets from the door to the sides of the truck creating frictional drag.

  • 4-Ply Dunnage Air Bag Uses:

Here is another example of air bag positioning. This is 4 ply bags placed in two different areas to lock in the load securely.

  • Crosswise Bracing
  • 4-Ply, 6-Ply, 8-Ply Dunnage Air Bag Uses:

    Rail Car Uses (Crosswise Bracing):
Used in railcars to fill length-wise void in doorways. AAR approved when weight of load is less than 30,000 lbs. Crosswise Bracing shown in the picture, can be a combination of 4,6, or 8 ply, due to the number of bags used.

  • 6-Ply & 8-Ply Dunnage Air Bag Uses:

    Rail Car Uses (Lengthwise Bracing):

The Lengthwise bracing requires a 6 or 8 ply. The primary application for the 8 ply bag is for the shipment of roll stock in rail cars. Used in railcars to fill length-wise voides in doorways where due to severe shipping conditions, a greater amount of protection is needed.

  • Lengthwise Bracing
  • Intermodal may require a variety of different sizes and plies. This will vary by the products and means of transportation.
