October 7th is National Manufacturing Day. At Green Label Packaging we are proud to have designed and built a few million Ecodek corrugated pallets used ship to products by other manufacturers all over the United States and internationally. October 7th is also world smile day. That makes us happy.

The paper pallets are specifically designed to hold IKEA products and allow more compact loading onto trucks. With the improvement of loading efficiency and the weight difference between wood and paper, the company decreases costs and boosts their sustainability. Some members of the industry still feel inclined to use prehistoric equipment that is anything but hygienic and clean. When such unsanitary practices are used, public health can be impacted dramatically. Last year alone, Blue Bell Creameries, one of the biggest ice cream makers in the U.S., had a deadly Listeria bacteria outbreak that resulted in 10 reported cases in four states. Three of the people infected later died from the infectious disease. Unfortunately, Blue Bell is not the first company to have a bacterial outbreak and it won’t be the last if the food industry continues to allow germ-ridden equipment, like wood pallets. Wood pallets are naturally porous and absorbent, making them very difficult to sanitize and creating the perfect breeding ground for contaminants and pathogens. Wood pallets also increase the likelihood of spreading bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens from cuts and punctures caused by splinters and nails. To avert contamination and outbreaks, clean and sanitary equipment must be used, such as Ecodek Pallets. Ecodek Pallets are constructed from new corrugated paper and FDA approved adhesive which prevents the need for fumigation and heat-treating costs that wood pallets are required for food grade applications. Ecodek Pallets are often less expensive than new wood pallets but can still be designed to hold four metric tons. Ecodek Pallets are the most quintessential option for the food industry to provide a sterile product and a safe environment for customers and industry professionals.
